Mallows Ghost Fleet AR Portal

October 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Marine Sanctuary System. To celebrate, we’ve created 3D Augmented Reality displaying custom artwork and educational information made by the incredible team at NOAA celebrating the wildlife that thrives in these protected waters around the nation.

Your 14th National Marine Sanctuary lies just 40 miles south of our nation's capital.

Mallows Bay-Potomac River National Marine Sanctuary protects and interprets the remnants of more than 100 World War I-era wooden steamships – known as the "Ghost Fleet". The best way to see this national treasure is by kayak but check out today's new Sanctuaries 360 video and explore the Ghost Fleet without ever getting your feet wet!

Play this content on a mobile device and travel through a portal while walking in the AR content. On the other side of the portal door is a 360-degree virtual video, walk around the scene while you walk in the real world. On the desktop simply click and drag to experience the kelp forest in 360 degrees.
